2D Pixel Artist – Join the DragonKill Team

2D Pixel Artist – Join the DragonKill Team

DragonKill is a 2D retro-style MMO that relies on strong pixel art to bring Gaia to life. We’re looking for pixel artists who can help create characters, environments, items, UI icons, and visual effects that feel both classic and immersive.

🎨 Role Summary

As a 2D Pixel Artist, you’ll help establish and maintain a consistent visual style across the game — from character sprites and animation frames to dungeon tilesets and item icons. You’ll collaborate closely with game designers and animators to match function and form.

🧪 Responsibilities

  • Design and illustrate pixel art assets for characters, creatures, items, and props.
  • Create overworld tilesets, dungeon layouts, and environmental features.
  • Draw UI components like inventory icons, skill visuals, and interface elements.
  • Collaborate with the animator and Unity developers to prepare assets for in-game use.
  • Ensure assets are consistent with the DragonKill art style and technical needs.

🎯 Expectations

  • You have experience with pixel art tools (Aseprite, Photoshop, Piskel, etc.).
  • You can work within size/palette constraints and deliver tile-based or modular art.
  • You’re comfortable taking feedback and iterating based on team needs.
  • You organize your files cleanly and deliver assets that are dev-ready.

🧠 Ideal Experience

  • Experience making spritesheets, environment tiles, or equipment sets for games.
  • Previous work on 2D games, game jams, or RPG Maker-type projects.
  • Basic understanding of Unity’s sprite workflow is a plus (but not required).

🏆 What You’ll Gain

  • Contribute to a fully playable, evolving 2D MMORPG with your artwork.
  • Have your art showcased in-game, online, and in trailers.
  • Receive credit, reputation, and shared success when we succeed.
  • Expand your pixel portfolio with real in-game implementation.

💬 How to Apply

Email customersupport@dragonkill.online or DM us on Discord with:

  • Your name and what you’d like to help with
  • Links to your pixel art portfolio, Instagram, or past projects
  • A little about yourself—your favorite art styles, what you enjoy drawing, and what excites you about DragonKill

No experience? No problem.

If you’re an up-and-coming pixel artist looking for real game work and mentorship, this is your opportunity to grow.

No payment (yet)

This is a volunteer role. But when we succeed — and we will — you’ll share in that success.

Shape the world. Leave your pixel mark. Join us.
